Vaping before lower blepharoplasty?

I’m at healthy 22 year old male. I’ve been vaping for 2 years, and I just quit. However, I’m scheduled to have a lower blepharoplasty in two weeks. I’m worried about wound healing and specifically tissue necrosis. Do you think I’ll be okay to have the procedure and recover smoothly?

While there is limited specific research on the direct impact of vaping on wound healing after blepharoplasty, it is well-established that smoking, including vaping, can have negative effects on healing and increase the risk of complications. Vaping introduces various chemicals and toxins into the body, including nicotine and other harmful substances, which can impair blood flow and oxygen delivery to the tissues.

Given that you have just quit vaping, it is a positive step towards improving your overall health and potentially enhancing your healing capacity. However, it's important to discuss your vaping history with your plastic surgeon during your pre-operative consultation. They will evaluate your individual case, take into consideration factors such as the duration and intensity of your vaping habits, and assess your overall health to provide personalized advice.

It is known that nicotine can increase complications with anesthesia as well as postoperative healing. Your surgeon should discuss your vape use and the recommended length of time prior to surgery that you be nicotine-free. Some practicioners will require preoperative nicotine testing as well.
