I’m sure they exist but I’ve never met somebody who was so lean that the surgeon could not harvest sufficient amounts of fat for a facial fat transfer procedure. For facial fat transfer small amounts of fat are usually grafted.Typically somewhere on the order of 10 to 50 mL.This in comparison to fat harvested for body contour is typically 20 to 50 times that amount .I’m generally not a big fan of facial fat transfer, because the procedure is by its very nature, unpredictable, imprecise, and potentially unforgiven if people don’t like the outcome. There are a lot of reasons why the procedure is not ideal for the face.I’m a big believer in fat transfer for other areas like the breast or buttocks, where grafting fat is highly predictable and can’t consistently give Great results. Grafting fat in the face is primarily different because in the face the areas were volume is often needed. It’s also the same area where the amount of tissue available to support. The grafted fat varies dramatically within short distances. It is often the amount of tissue available to support the graft That determines whether outcomes are successful or not.For this and many other reasons, I generally recommend fillers as being the best treatment for midface or any facial volume augmentation. Fillers unlike, grafted fat, are precise, predictable, and very forgiving if people don’t like the outcome. Dead fat one that work and fat grafted from another individual will create a graft versus host rejection potentially causing serious medical complications. We do not transplant, tissues, for cosmetic purposes Preserved fat, is non-viable, and does not have the potential for surviving a grafting procedure because it will be dead already.Best,Mats Hagstrom, MD
