The cost for hair transplantation does depend on technique and number of grafts needed.  Ultimately a consultation and physical exam would be the best approach.  You can graft anywhere from 20-40 follicular units per thinning (or balding) square centimeter area.  You can chose to do a follicular unit extraction (FUE) or a strip method which can leave a linear scar.  FUE creates less donor scar visibility.  For the area shown, I would say 300-500 follicular grafts would be needed.  The cost per graft using Neograft (FUE) in our practice ranges between $5-7 / follicular unit depending on whether we are coupling the transplantation with other services (e.g. low-level light therapy).   

There are always risks to surgery.  Surgery can cause more hair loss and can leave you looking worse.  It's important that you have a proper diagnosis and prognosis of your hair loss state before considering treatment.  The cost of surgery is based on this and can range from $3000 to $10,000.

The number of grafts and costs vary from parts of the country to how dedicated a place is to just hair transplants.  Also, some things have more evidence then others so you want to make sure you are not paying for gimmicks.  Ranges of graft costs are 3-15$. You would be surprised how many places do hair transplant on the side and/or you meet one person but then the whole team is outsourced for doing your procedure.  

You should think twice about filling in the crown if you  are under 25 and have a family history of significant male pattern baldness. If you have the work done, which would cost in the neighborhood of $4000-6,000, the result would be acheived between 6 and 9 months after the procedure. There are risks with any medical procedure, however hair transplantation has very low serious risks.
