Is it OK to use crest white strips to whiten tooth underneath a veneer? (Photo)

Question

One of my front tooth has a veneer. I just took off my braces and now only veneer looks yellow when I smile. I have had the veneer since 1994 I think. I have never had any problems with it.

It is not possible to whiten a porcelain veneer.  I would recommend replacing the veneer to match the other teeth.  The color should match perfectly and be undetectable.  Good luck.

Hi Tammy,Whitening gels and strips are pretty ineffective at whitening veneered teeth.  You would probably just be wasting money and time, trying to do this.  I would recommend just having the veneer replaced, which is a simple procedure that takes 1-2 appointments.  Since you would be replacing just a single veneer, you would want to make sure that you find a cosmetic dentist that will have no problem matching the exact shade of the veneer to your other veneers.  Just review the before and after photos of any dentist you're considering, so that you will know what expectations to have.  Good luck and I hope this helps.
