IPL while on Differin + benzoyl peroxide and Bactrim.

Question

Hello, i been taking bactrim for about 2 month and using benzoyl peroxide and differin for about 1, my question is if its safe do ipl max g to be clear, my dermatologist recommend it for acne hyperpigmentation, i ask him if it was ok do it while i still on those medications and he said that it was ok, i still with my doubts because i have my first session next Tuesday but he didnt ask me to stop taking anything.

In my opinion, a doctor expert in IPL should be able to account for your medications. There is a small chance that you are photosensitive while on Bactrim. Retinoids thin the skin, therefore the energy used in the procedure needs to be decreased and the pulse length extended.

I always recommend that my patients stop using any and all exfoliants or acne medications, including differin gel and benzoyl peroxide, at least five days prior to any IPL treatment. Some patients do experience photosensitivity while taking Bactrim so it might be a good idea to speak to your practicing technician/physician prior to treatment about whether or not to stop taking that.
