Can I take a break from my compression garment four day post-op?

Follow your surgeons post-op instructions the compression garment is an important part of the healing process.  If the garment is too tight you may want to try a different sized garment.

Compression garments are important post operatively for support, limiting edema, and breast stability. In general, it should not be a tourniquet or incredibly uncomfortable. Is the garment too small?Without interfering with your surgeons post operative instructions, you should FIRST consult with your surgeon.In my practice, I do allow patients to take a hour or two break from the compression garment, if it is uncomfortable or desirable. Best wishes

Best to run this question by your plastic surgeon who knows exactly what was done and is ultimately responsible for your care. Generally speaking, most plastic surgeons will allow you to take a “break” from the garment but (again) is best to check with your own surgeon. Best wishes and Happy New Year!

Contact your surgeon for a 2nd garment.  Washing the garment in mild detergent may be helpful with the itching.  Also, the use of baby powder under the garment seems to help.  Discuss taking breaks from your garment with your surgeon, as he is responsible for your care.
