Your surgeon may suggest other wound healing products/devices to accelerate the process. This kind of breakdown can occur if there is blood supply compromise to the healing incisions, if infection occurred, if patients smoke or have diabetes/other wound healing risk factors, etc. The wound VAC is a device that can accelerate healing in this kind of situation, but it may have significant out of pocket costs. Speak to your surgeon and if you are not happy with the progress, consider getting another opinion from a surgeon at a wound care center.
