I am concerned about people knowing I may get plastic surgery. I want an upper and lower blepharoplasty. Will people know?

The goal of blepharoplasty is to only remove the redundant skin and fat and add fat in the hollowed areas. If the fat is removed too much from the upper eyelids the change becomes noticeable. With the contemporary techniques we avoid too much change. You should discuss your concerns with an experience board certified plastic surgeons.

The art of plastic surgery comes from producing a beautiful and natural looking result.  Once something looks "done" a lot of the attraction is lost. This is a very common concern.  I find that patients often do better when they tell a select group of family members and close friends -- this is because it eases some of the anxiety you are experiencing AND it gives you a small group to help support you in the healing process.  Depending on how you heal, you could have bruising under your eyes for 1-2 weeks.  Generally, most of my patients can wear makeup to camouflage this after the first week.The goal of eyelid surgery is not to make you look like a different person.  The goal is for people to not be able to put their finger on why you look so good or "refreshed".  I often tell my patients that any change in the style or color of their hair will be enough to distract away from the surgical site so that when asked "You look great, what have you done?" you can simply answer "I'm trying something new with my hair".Good luck as you move forward!

Hello and thank you for sharing this all too important question.Number one concern for anyone having facial cosmetic surgery is looking like too much was done and having other people know they had surgery.If you choose an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, this should not occur.  The most important goal is to have a natural result.  Nothing matters more, not even how long the results will last.  You should ask each physician you interview to allow them to see their results on the procedures you desire.  Maybe ask if some recent former patients would talk with you to get their opinions as well.Check the local state medical board on those physicians you are considering to see if there have been any complaints as well.There are many excellent plastic surgeons who will give you the natural result so no one, not even family members, would know.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Most patients have the anxiety you express. Everyone asks how long do they need to stay out of work for it not to look like they had surgery. Thank you for sharing your concerns on having surgery. This is a very common feeling for patients. The post op recovery for upper blepharoplasty will be most noticeable in the first 2-3 weeks with bruising and swelling. You can conceal the area with wide rimmed glasses if you choose. Best of luck.

Yes, you should assume some people will notice that you have had surgery.  It is you choice to move forward. Remember, you will like be bruised for 1-2 weeks.

 Most patients take 2 weeks off from their work environment after undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure. Visible bruising and swelling will usually be present for approximately 2 weeks. Try altering  your hairstyle differently, which would be much more surface  area change then the eyelids, which could draw attention away from them.

ravengrl, Surgery should be designed to make you look younger without looking operated on. See an experienced facial plastic specialist with good photos who does "only faces". Many patients that I see that think they need their upper lids done usually need their brows done instead. This requires an expert eye and a very experienced surgeon. Good luck!
