Please help! Is this abnormal following juvederm ultra plus in upper lip only? I'm having major anxiety (Photo)

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips. It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling. If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler. For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. It often takes up to two weeks for swelling to subside on its own. Find an expert in filler injections for your future treatments. Best, Dr. Emer.

Some people can get very swollen with Juvederm.  If you had a full tube into the upper lid, you will be swollen for several days.  You also have bruising so will look pretty irregular until that all resolves.  Give it at least a week to start to look more normal.  Ice not helpful after about 72 hours. 

Thank you for your photographs and questions. I am sorry to hear about your anxiety with your JVD.  As far as bruising, you have bruised a bit more than is typical, but it sounds as if you have managed it appropriately. I would keep up with the arnica and perhaps try some warm compresses to help bring blood to your lips to clear the bruise, while also gently massaging the lumps. I would allow at least two weeks to pass before deciding upon your results.   Your swelling needs to resolve, and you need to allow for enough time for your filler to soften and absorb water to reach its final result.  

Filler in lip can not only bruise but can lead to a lot of swelling. This usually takes a week or so to settle. If overly concerned, then see your surgeon.

Your appearance on the day of the injection or 1 day post injection is going to be similar to your end result. The swelling that develops by day three will resolve over the coming week. I don't see anything that looks concerning at this point and your swelling should gradually come down over time. Hi Thanks for your question. It appears that you have developed a bruise from the injection. This may be painful, stiff and unsightly, but is should resolve. Unfortunately it can be a risk of lip injections with juvederm. I have found that injections using a micro-cannula technique greatly reduces the risk. Icing the lips for at least 10-15 minutes prior to the injection may also be helpful. A bright shade of lipstick will help you camouflage the bruise until it resolves. Hang in there. This falls within the realm of normal I believe. Injection technique, cannulas, will tend to lead to less of this. I usually don't inject one lip. I changes the ratio of the upper to lower lip but in darker skin races, the ratio can be closer to 1:1. The upper lip should project further than the lower lip. For bruising, I always offer a VBeam to decrease the time it takes the bruise to resolve.

Fillers in the lips can cause swelling and bruising.  You do have more swelling, but this is not unusual.   None of this appears worrisome, but it will take a bit of time to go away completely.  

Filler injections in the lips cause lots of swelling. Especially juvederm. This swelling usually goes away in less than a week. Some people may benefit from benadryl to decrease the swelling. I would stop icing after 48hrs, as it is no loger helpful.
