In order to determine the best course of treatment for your hair loss, you should meet with a qualified and experienced hair restoration surgeon. It sounds like you are interested in medically managing your hair loss. If this is the case, the hair restoration surgeon you choose should specialize in the medical management of hair loss (not all do). Alopecia Areata can be treated with both steroid injections and minoxidil. Unfortunately, I cannot give you my recommendation on what specific course of treatment would be best for you, as I have not seen your hair or done a hair loss consult with you. Upon a full consult, your hair loss can be analyzed and assessed and a comprehensive hair restoration plan can be made. This requires an in-person evaluation. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options and supplements. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone which work well with Minoxidil/Steroids. Hair transplantation is an alternative. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
My go to treatment regimen for alopecia areata is steroid injections directly into the area of loss, as well as minoxidil applied topically AND laser therapy.
Minoxidil injections are not a part of a standard care for alopecia areata. Steroid injections are, so it would be wise to see a hair specialist or a dermatologist to receive proper treatment.
Steroid injections are a good option for small patches of alopecia areata. Topical minoxidil (not minoxidil injections) can be used as well with the steroid injections. Steroid injections are less useful if the patient has more extensive hair loss.Minoxidil injections are not routinely used by dermatologists and this treatment has never been studied in any rigorous manner in alopecia areata. Topical minoxidil, however, has been rigorously studied in alopecia areata and has proven helpful.
The use of steroid injections have been the mainstay for the treatment of alopecia areata for many years. This disease is best treated by a dermatologist with considerable experience in this disease. An excellent cosmetic treatment for this disease in men and some women is scalp micropigmentation which camouflages the disease state.
If one has a rapid cycling TE, hairs are shed in as soon as 6 months (maybe less). They don't get a chance to grow long and fatten up. We often see this in the temples in patients with TE but it can occur throughout the scalp. Patients with TE typicall have hairs more than 3 cm (and usually more...
Early in the process, they grow just like normal hair that is not miniaturized. Miniaturized hairs will frequently hang in a long time, especially when they are at the end of their life. By hanging in I am not suggesting that at the end of their life that they are still growing, they just don't...
Many medications may cause hair loss but it is generally not the number one cause of hair loss in women. You may want to see a doctor to find out if there are other cause for your hair loss.
