Does my left eye have ptosis? (Photo)

Question

I have been wearing colored contacts for 11 years. I have never had vision problems but just wanted different colored eyes for cosmetic reasons. I now learned that I have a minor astigmatism in my left eye and I noticed my eyelids seem to be different. If I stop wearing contacts will it go back to normal?

It would be good to see a picture before contact lens use.  In some people who use contact lens for many years the lids may droop.  Unusual after only 11 years, but possible.  Especially if you were a little low to begin.  The astigmatism was probably always there and is not caused by the contacts.  you should see an oculoplastic surgeon who can evaluate your eyelid muscles and decide if a ptosis surgery would be advisable.

Prolonged contact lens wear has been shown to worsen eyelid ptosis (droopy eyelid). Stopping contact lens will not reverse it, just prevent it from getting worse. You may be a candidate for ptosis surgery. See an oculoplastic specialist.

No, your upper eyelid asymmetry has nothing to do with wearing contacts. It is congenital and can easily be treated as an office procedure, usually under locan anesthesia , if no contraindications exist.

Astigmatism and ptosis are usually unrelated and it gets complicated because there are different types of astigmatism (could be caused by contact lens wearing or not) and different reasons for ptosis (sometimes we never know why it happens). Your photo would provide more information if we could see your eyebrows and exactly what is going on there in relation to your eyelids. Best to have an in person consultation with an Oculoplastics surgeon or a plastic surgeon who is intimately familiar with eyelids.
