Good candidate for Bellafill? (Photo)

Question

I had surgery to remove a cyst nearly 2 years ago, and before that I had steroid injections which may have caused a bit of the surrounding atrophic appearance. Since surgery, I’ve had BBL and profractional laser therapy, as well as microneedling. Nothing is addressing the atrophic appearance. Do you think I’m a good candidate for bellafill? How do I attach a photo?

Permanent fillers, such as silicone and Bellafil can translate into permanent complications down the road, since there is no simple way to dissolve these foreign substances, unlike with natural HA fillers. If you are looking for a permanent solution to your problem that does not involve the risk of permanent fillers, you may wish to explore subcision. Subcision, which I have personally been using since 1995 has a long, proven track record of safety and efficacy for elevating and smoothing all kinds of depressions in the skin, whether from atrophy or from scarring. It may be performed as a stand-alone treatment or combined with natural HA fillers. You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Thank you for sharing your history. Bellafill can be an excellent option for atrophic scars because it provides both immediate volume correction and long-term collagen stimulation. Given that you have already tried laser treatments, microneedling, and steroid injections without achieving the improvement you want, Bellafill may be a reasonable next step—especially for scars that are depressed or have volume loss.

That said, candidacy depends on several factors, including:

The depth, location, and nature of the scar.

Your skin type and healing history.

Whether there is still any tethering of the scar tissue.

A skin test is also required before treatment with Bellafill to rule out allergy to bovine collagen.

As for attaching a photo, usually there is an option on the platform to upload images for review—look for an “add photo” or “upload” button near the message or question box.
