Is it needed to cut hair short for SMP procedure? The hair is long, the purpose is to increase hair density.

Dear kmpr, Thanks for the question. It is not necessary to have short hair for an SMP procedure. SMP is meant to give you the appearance of density. SMP is a medical tattoo procedure that mimics the appearance of your natural hair. Recovery time is minimal, with some patients returning to work the day following the procedure. If the goals is to add the look of hair density when the hair is long using scalp pigmentation. Keeping the hair long may slow down the session but achieve a more even result in the longer term. It is possible to identify specific areas they may need a greater concentration of pigment. otherwise you can end up with a patchy result.

It is generally not needed to cut hair before SMP when doing it on a long haired individual for density.  Each technician may have different preferences, so check with your provider, but generally cutting hair is not required unless doing it on a shaved head individual for full scalp coverage.
