Question

why after 8 weeks is there swelling . It doesn't seem to be getting better. I message twice a day. The one under my left eye feel like a muscle. I message twice a day. I just want it to go away

Hi NanRN,
Sorry to hear of your concerns.  Sometimes the area under your eyes holds on to swelling for a while, and the final result is closer to 6 months.  Continue massaging, limit salt intake, and sleep with your head in a neutral position on a couple pillows (head elevated).  Follow closely with your surgeon-- if there is prominence of the orbicularis muscle, he/she may consider a treatment to soften it, like Botox®.

It is not that unusual for patients to still have some lower eyelid swelling after two months. Occasionally a steroid injection will help, but with most patients, just giving it more time will allow the swelling to resolve on it's own. Thanks for the question.  Depending on what is done, swelling can take up to three months to resolve.  Arnica cream may help with the residual bruising and treatment by a lymphatic massage specialist may help.

Eyelid swelling can last a long time and massage can prolong the problem. Stop the massage and make sure you are sleeping on your back with a minimum of 3-4 pillows at night and give it another month or two.
