How much would it cost to get my small tattoo removed and is it worth it? (photo)

Question

I want to remove my first ever tattoo, it's pretty small, a tiny bit larger than a quarter. I don't really want to cover it with a new tattoo because I don't want anything large on my shoulder. I'm afraid it will still cost quite a lot to be removed even if it is just a small area. I'm in the middle Tennessee area if that helps or makes a difference. Thanks for your time!

The price of laser tattoo removal varies. Much of the tattoo is broken up by the tattoo laser. The body will eliminate the tattoo in 1 of 3 different ways including lymphatic removal, macrophages removing the particles and simple elimination through the skin. The tattoo takes time to be eliminated and patients do not return when it is 100% eliminated unless for another treatment. Keep in mind, not all patients can have 100% of removal, of the tattoo but the best approach is a combination of pico and nano technology. Depending on how many sessions you have, the lines may look faded instead of completely erased. Be sure to see a licensed technician if you decide to go froward with the treatments.Best,Anil Shah

Yes the tattoo can be removed. The best and quickest treatment is with a PicoSure laser. This laser can remove a tattoo without scarring and works well on all ink colors including black. It usually takes between 5-10 treatments about 6 weeks apart. There are many variables to consider. Consult a doctor with a Pico laser.

Thank you for your question. There are many factors that will determine the price of laser tattoo removal. These factors are the size, color, placement and the number of sessions needed. However, the average cost to remove a small tattoo is $100-$250 per session. In my office I use the Picosure laser it is 95%+ effective in removing tattoos and works best on dark colors such as black, blue, purple and green and it can take up to 6-10 sessions. Please remember the further the tattoo is from the heart the more time it will take to remove. I recommend having a consultation with an expert to determine the best treatment plan for you. Fortunately black ink treats the best with a 1064 nano and picosecond laser.  We have great success with the Cutera Enlighten.  It can take 4-6 treatments and varies from person to person as it is your body which pulls out the ink, the laser just activates it.  Good care between treatment is important and waiting 8 weeks between will maintain nice healthy skin.  Cost will vary from area to area and different clinic.  It could be $75 and up.  Get a couple of consultations with experienced medical office based clinics is a good starting point.  Whether it is worth it is up to you to decide how much time and money you want to invest vs. self esteem.
