I had a professional tattoo done about 3 years ago now which I now regret. It is all coloured in red (a shame as I know it is the most stubborn colour to remove!) The lady that I already see for my laser hair removal which has been successful uses a Lumina Nd:YAG laser (I think that's what it's called!!! Not sure if it's Q Switched, don't understand these things!) I'd just like to know if you think I could have some success with removal? I am due my first session in two days time. Thank you :-)
Answer: Removing Red Ink Removing red tattoos can be tough. There have been recent major advancements to break up this color. Find a skilled doctor, and know that these things require your patience. Here are my tips on safely and effectively removing tattoos. Good luck.Tattoo removal, if not done correctly, can result in either scarring or ghosting. Here are some tips: Find a reputable office with a Pico laser. It produces faster results with less scarring than a nano alone. Tattoo removal shops are not as reputable as a Doctor. Many of these shops close as quickly as they open, leaving you out of luck on pre-paid packages.Stay out of the sun— sunlight can be harmful to healing in after any laser procedureAvoid infections- This means keep your tattoo area clean (i.e. don’t garden right after a tattoo removal on your arm, etc), don’t pick scabs or blisters if they occur. Follow our post procedure instructions. Avoid swimming for 48 hours as water can infect the treated areas.Allow healing between treatment sessions- typically 4-8 weeks.Be healthy- while the tattoo laser breaks up the tattoo particles, your body will actually eliminate the particles. Being healthy will help achieve this process faster and allow for consistent healing. Drink lots of water, get adequate sleep, and eat vitamin enriched foods. In our practice we utilize the currently most powerful Pico laser on the market called the PiQo4 by Lumenis. The main advantage of a stronger tattoo laser (combining nano and pico wavelengths at greater power) is faster breakup of the tattoo. The science of tattoo removal is complex but essentially the greater power will photo acoustically break up tattoo particles in smaller pieces. Best, Anil Shah

Answer: Seek a medically trained and qualified clinician for best results Hello and thank you for your inquiry. We use the PicoSure laser by CynoSure for tattoo removal. Our practice has been using the PicoSure laser since it received FDA approval for tattoo removal over three years ago. Additionally, we have the special equipment required for removal of the "sunset colors" (red/orange/yellow/pink), which are often the most challenging to remove. If you think of the ink of a tattoo as a "boulder", other lasers break the ink into "rocks", the PicoSure laser shatters the ink into "grains of sand". These tiny particles are then eliminated by your body over time. The best recommendation is to find a qualified clinical expert who is experienced in removing red ink. The clinician should start with a free consultation, take information from you to determine if you are a medically appropriate candidate for laser treatments, and take specific measurements to determine the size of the inked area. Pricing is determined primarily by the size. Finally, the clinician should work with you to create a treatment plan to estimate the number of treatments they anticipate will be required and the timing. Most tattoos take between 4-6 treatments, and treatments must be spaced at least 8 weeks apart to allow your body the time it needs to clear the shattered ink.Not all laser hair removal technicians are qualified clinicians, such as an R.N or M.D. Since hair removal lasers and technicians vary widely, I would recommend finding a qualified clinician. If your laser hair removal tech is a qualified medically trained clinician and using medical grade lasers, such as the PicoSure by CynoSure, then by all means since you have a well established relationship you would likely want to continue. All the best to you!
