Is it ok or normal for both nipples not to be completely flat after gynecomastia surgery? (photos)

It is too soon to see your final result. You will have swelling for several weeks. I have my patients wear their compression vest for 6 weeks to aid in healing. Try to be patient. Good luck.

Dear lee1201,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a gynecomastia surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides  you will be able to see the final result of your surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  In the first few weeks after surgery it is common for asymmetrical swelling to lead to asymmetrical results.  At only a week out you will see significant changes continue to take place as your outcome matures.  For now I would recommend using compression garments to minimize swelling, start tissue massage when cleared by your surgeon, and allow yourself more time to heal!

It is too early to evaluate your final result. But you should certainly communicate your concerns to your plastic surgeons office. They can reassure you if they believe things are progessing normally. 

Thank you for your question and photos.  As you are only one week post-op, my assumption would be that it is indeed swelling.  You may also have had some residual scar tissue from the first liposuction, and because of that, the tissue may take a little longer to flatten out.  I recommend that my patients wear a tight compression vest under their shirt for at least four weeks after surgery, but follow the instructions of your PS.  Best wishes!

Good evening and thank you for your question, it is very common for asymmetrical Swelling in the first few weeks after surgery, however you’re in the very early stage of the healing process. Your pictures look very appropriate for 1 week after surgery. You will have swelling and your surgeon may have performed a larger removal on the side with more swelling. You do not have a final result. At some point your surgeon will want you to start massaging which will help reduce the swelling.
