Question

I'm a 44 year old female at 5'4 and 225 lbs. I've consulted with a plastic surgeon about breast reduction. But I just heard from my insurance company and for the procedure to be approved the doctor hast to remove 819 g per breast. If I am a size 36 G/H, how many cup sizes would I have to go down for insurance to cover the surgery? The doctor requested 500 g per breast, but he also did not ask me specifically what size I'd like to be aftet the surgery.

At size 36, each 200 grams removed corresponds to 1 cup size change. Removing 819 grams would take you down 4 cup sizes and end up size C or D. The technique I recommend is The Bellesoma Method. This will reduce and reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. The weight of the breast is transferred to the underlying pectoralis major muscle resulting in pain relief without excessive reduction. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained. This technique is not covered by insurance.

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body. It can also reduce the size of areolas - the dark skin surrounding the nipple.
The amount of tissue removed depends on your desired breast size. Most women who have this surgery experience a significant decrease in the size and weight of their breasts, as well as relief from neck and back pain. Breast reduction surgery usually takes two to three hours, and you will likely spend one to two nights in the hospital.
Cup sizes vary from bra company to bra company, so it is difficult to predict exactly how many cup sizes you will decrease after surgery. However, most women experience a significant decrease in breast size. It is difficult to give an accurate estimate as to how many cup sizes you will decrease after breast reduction surgery. In addition, each individual patient's breasts are unique in size, shape, and composition.

breast reduction is best suited for women who wish to decrease the size of their breasts. While there are different techniques used to perform this surgery, I prefer the vertical incision (lollipop pattern) breast reduction technique instead of the anchor scar pattern, which reduces more noticeable scarring than usual. I also use a SAFE liposuction technique to reduce additional fat around the stubborn axilla area and bra line. This way, my patients are achieving beautiful results with minimal incisions which reduces downtime and delivers an overall better breast shape long term.If you are considering breast reduction surgery, you should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and make sure your surgeon understands your goals.
