Is it normal to feel tightness and contraction under the skin 2 weeks post Vaser Lipo?

hello adotx Many studies indicate that there is also less injury than the traditional liposuction method resulting in less pain, swelling and bruising.  Final results can be seen 2-4 months later as the swelling continues to diminish and contours become more defined. Thanks for your questions! After VASER liposuction surgery, pain and soreness may occur and should be relieved with analgesics. These pain medications are usually prescribed by plastic surgeons to help with general discomfort. Some amount of bruising and swelling is expected and it will disappear with time. Similarly, feelings of burning, and tightness are common occurrence during the healing process, but will decrease with each passing day. Your body may look swollen for months, but after 6 months you might appreciate your new and amazingly contoured figure. I would recommend you wearing specialized compression garments for 6 months and getting lymphatic drainage massages in order to completely alleviate the swelling and discomfort. Refrain from strenuous activity for the first month after surgery and contact your surgeon promptly if you notice an increase in swelling, pain, redness, drainage, or bleeding in the surgical area, or if you develop fever (above 100.4 F), dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. Yes, this can be typical after liposuction. Pain can be variable for patients who have had liposuction. If necessary, this pain can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications and neurontin. If it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor. It can take 3-6 months for final results with liposuction. I suggest lymphatic massage, hyperbaric oxygen, and RF treatments like venus legacy to help reduce any swelling. I tell my patients to expect what you are describing.  Usually, about two weeks after Vaser Lipo, people feel tight, fibrotic tissue in the area that was treated.  This is part of the healing process and very normal.  I recommend heating pads to the area several times daily, as well as massage.  This will help the fibrotic tissue to break up a bit more quickly.  However, even if left alone, it will eventually go away on its own.You should still be wearing your compression garment at least 10 hours a day.  Certainly, follow up with your provider if you feel that the tightness does not get better with massage and heat.

Thank you for your question, at two weeks post Vaser Liposuction, it is normal to have the sensations you are describing.  At two weeks, you can start massaging the areas where the lipo was performed.  Compression is important.  Check with your Plastic Surgeon, he or she may suggest professional massaging.

After Vaser Liposuction it is not uncommon to form some scar tissue under the skin. This is due to the friction generated during the vasering and suctioning phases of the procedure. Can also be due to the heat released by the vaser probe if the setting is too high for that particular area/fat type.
But don't worry! Scar tissue is a temporary hardness which usually softens and reabsorbs over a period of weeks/months, depending on the amount and severity of scar tissue.
In some cases, when the scar tissue is particularly hard, I inject some PRP (platelet rich plasma) into the hardness. This allows the scar tissue to soften and reabsorb faster.
In order to prevent scar tissue formation, it is vital to receive a few lymphatic drainage massages in the week immediately after the procedure, before the scar tissue forms (around 2 weeks after the procedure).
If you have already scar tissue and your doctor doesn't perform PRP injections, you can always massage yourself (gently) the hard areas, trying to allow more blood flow to the scar tissue, which over time will help to soften and reabsorb the hardness. It might take several months in severe cases, but eventually it should reabsorb.
In the unlikely event that the scar tissue is still present after 12 months, you might ask your doctor to vaser again the area with scar tissue. Breaking it down will help the reabsorption.
