How long do I need to stay out of the sun after a peel?

Direct sunlight (suntanning and tanning salons) are usually frowned upon for a few weeks after a chemical peel. Normal sun exposure should always be protected by sunscreen after your peel. Chemical peels are great for skin rejuvenation, acne or pigmentation but not all peels can be used safely for all conditions or on all patients. Please make sure that you have a thorough consultation and assessment with a skin specialist prior to venturing for these treatments. Sun protection and staying away from tanning beds after chemical peels is a must. In addition, we recommend long lasting sunscreen. I would not recommend sun exposure without sun screen for months after a peel and, in most patients, we recommend continued sun protection and vitamin D3 supplementation.I hope that helps

How long you after a peel you should avoid the sun depends upon your skin type, whether you are taking photosensitizing medication and the strength of the peel. Certainly you should avoid direct sun exposure until your skin stops peeling and you can apply sunscreen.it would be a good idea to use an appropriate sunscreen after you stop peeling and repeat the application every two hours.  I would also suggest wearing a hat with a very large brim and do not lie down on the beach or get direct sun exposure.
