Is there such a thing as too much stretching too fast with the tissue expander?

Excellent question.  Common practice is to begin expansion 1-2 weeks following surgery and then weekly thereafter until the desired expansion is completed.  It is common for the patient to experience some degree of pain and discomfort for a couple of days following each expansion but this pain should resolve.  I do not expand until the patient is essentially pain free (which they usually are if you allow 1-2 weeks between expansion) as pain is somewhat of an indicator that the stretched tissue is still adapting to its most recent expansion.  Hope this helps and good luck!

I am so very sorry to hear about your horrible experience. In all honesty, it's impossible to say whether or not your necrosis could have been avoided and/or was caused by a too fast expansion.There are so many other things that could have caused the problem. Sorry to hear that you had implant extrusion that required explantation.Without having see you and your expansion progress, it is difficult say that fast expansions caused the skin necrosis and extrusion.  Your breast skin may have been too thin after surgery; you might have had skin infection or fluid that contributed to extrusion.Good luck with your recovery.
