Unhappy with the crown. If I want to get it changed, what should I be going for? (Photo)

The problem isn't the material but rather the  dentist and the lab.  The single front tooth is always difficult.  I have my labtech come in and custom color crowns in the office.The tooth looks grey which needs blocking, this can be done with opaque cements when using translucent crowns E-max and zirconia are naturally more opaque but empress is often best looking.  I just cemented a single crown where we did custom porcelain staining plus used an opaquer in the bonding cement.This tooth has too low a value   (whiteness) and poor Chroma (color) both need correction.  It looks like the arch may be canted and there may be a width discrepancy between the two front teeth.Ira L Shapira DDS, D,ABDSM, D,AAPM, FICCMOMember, Academy of Cosmetic DentistryChair, American Alliance of TMD OrganizationsThinkBetterLife.com

Hi Davis, thanks for the question... Yes, Zirconia is the best option for sthetics front crowns, maybe the lights of office sometime looks different when you saw out, need to select better color and changed for Zirconia or E-max crowns, good luck. Regards 

Matching one single tooth is one of the hardest thing in dentistry. I'd recommend an eMax crown as more natural results can be obtained. When you try in the next crown, you can all top have our temporarily cemented so you can view it in different lighting conditions. Frequently what looks good in the office doesn't look good in sunlight, especially if there's poor lighting conditions. You can also go to the lab for a custom shade match. You'd be making an appointment to redo the crown, and it would be reasonable since it clearly doesn't match! 

Not knowing the condition or color of the tooth beneath the crown it is difficult to define what material.  Zirconia tens to be rather opaque and would not be my first choice.  If you really want your front teeth to match for a long time  ( your natural teeth will darken over time and your crown will stay the same color, so if matched now, would not match later anyway), get both front teeth covered with the same porcelain -- probably a nice all porcelain crown on the right one and a veneer of the same material on the left.
