Do I have to get a crown on my wisdom tooth after root canal? Or is the permanent filling fine?

I just had a root canal on my upper left wisdom tooth (tooth 16). The dentist put in a permanent filling. Do I need a crown for the wisdom teeth? Or is it alright if I just stay with the filling for that wisdom tooth?
