When using the traditional needle technique, swelling and bruising can last as long as one week. In my practice, I like to use the microcannula technique, which minimizes the risk of swelling and bruising and gives a very even and natural looking result. In general, to minimize your risk of bruising and swelling, I recommend discontinuing any blood thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, etc., for 7 days prior to injections. Hi ~ Restylane injections into the lips can cause significant swelling and firmness. The majority of swelling, firmness, numbness  should resolve by 2 weeks. If there seems to be significant swelling that is not improving by 2 weeks it is a good idea to go see your injector.
