I am not a Japanese plastic surgeon but do have a large Asian cosmetic surgery practice. There are many techniques of breast enhancements. In the 1940-60's, permanent fillers such as silicone and paraffin injections were used to augment breasts in Japan. Unfortunately, these techniques often resulted permanent disfigurement. Permanent injectable synthetic fillers have no role in modern breast augmentation. Surgically positioned synthetic breast implants are the most common and accepted methods of augmentation. Less often practised is autologous fat grafting. Autologous fat grafting is a new method of enhancement that is slowly evolving into a viable and accepted surgical option for augmentation. Body morphology is the greatest determinant as to whether implant contours are visible and apparent after augmentation. Most patients with breast augmentation (including Japanese actresses) have had synthetic breast implants.
