I have extremely oily/blackheads/pores after rhinoplasty. My surgeon told me to use nail polish remover. Is this right?

I had my rhinoplasty 12 days ago and my nose is looking not so good right now from the blackheads and the amount of oil and pores . my surgeon told me to use nailpolish remover is that ok? I never heard that before thats why im asking .

The skin on your nose is likely reacting to the bandages you wore following surgery, which is very normal. Definitely avoid using nail polish remover to clear out the blackheads. The skin on your face is very sensitive, and the acetone found in most nail polishes can cause stinging and dryness. Stick to a basic face wash, or keep it simple with just soap and water.

Dear Ellaaa18, Blackheads and oily skin can be caused from the rhinoplasty bandaging. In my office we have an esthetician that addresses the proper skin care for various post operative surgical cases. Ask your surgeon if he has someone either in the office or outside of the office for referral who may advise you of the best skin care regimen. I personally have never requested nail polish remover to be used on the nose as the acetone content may be very harsh especially to sensitive skin. A good cleanser and toner should help reduce the oil and any further breakout. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
