What is the effectiveness 5-FU injection (fluorocil) to reduce mature scar-tissue in tip of nose?

Question

I had an open rhinoplasty 5 years ago in which Kenalog40 was injected into the tip. The skin of my nose is relatively thick so I know its limitations. Although early use of 5-FU is preferrable, can 5-FU improve mature scar tissue (either 5-FU alone or mixed with Kenalog40). I would like to avoid getting another rhinoplasty OR am open to an outpatient/local-anesthesia procedure if the scar-tissue can be excised and overall symmetry achieved with relative ease/permanent result.

5-FU is a great option to reduce scar tissue. That being said, I believe this in combination with fillers can give you a great result. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to go over your desired results. Facial fillers (voluma, restylane, juvederm) can be used to improve the symmetry of the nose. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

I highly advise against having Kenalog 40 injected into your nose unless it is a very small amount or diluted. Kenalog-40 is very strong and can create  problems.  Kenalog 10 is the more diluted version and safer. I personally do not inject 5 FU as I have not seen effective results in my patients. It is also a cancer medication  and may cause birth defects if given to Women of childbearing age. I know other surgeons who do like 5 FU but I find Kenalog to be a more affective and safer choice.
