i had rhinoplasty on july 7 (almost 2 months post op ) and just this week a bump started appearing on the septum . is this normal or is it a swelling bump?
Answer: Swelling 2 months post rhinoplasty Thank you for your question! It is understandable that you are concerned especially with the "bump on the septum". Changes after rhinoplasties vary with every patient and what you are experiencing is normal especially that swelling takes time to subside as it masks the results of your surgery. With the pictures posted, the lack of surgical details and the inability to perform a physical exam it is not possible to provide you with a definitive medical answer. It is important to keep in mind that it is early to pass a judgment. Usually, a year is required before formulating how your nose will be. Even then, your nose will keep shaping itself and to complement your face for better results in the years to come.My best recommendations at the moment is to be patient, allow nature to take its course and edema subsides for better results. There is no doubt that once the swelling resolves, more definition and shape will be achieved and you should be happier with the results. Also, it is important that you keep communicating with your surgeon and work as a team together to achieve the best results possible.Congratulations on your surgery and please remain positive!Ali Sajjadian, MD FACS

Answer: Bump Inside Of Nose 2 Months After Rhinoplasty - Is This Normal? Congratulations. From the pictures you sent, it appears you had an excellent rhinoplasty. As for the bump that you show in your pictures, it appears to be a suture line on the membranous septum from your open rhinoplasty. The swelling on your nose has begun to subside. Your columella (the skin part of your septum between the two nostrils) is getting thinner as your swelling goes down, and now you are seeing the suture bump more easily. If my theory is correct and this is, in fact, a suture bump, it will get smaller with time. Anyway, this is nothing to worry about.

Answer: Septoplasty sutures can leave temporary irregularities that often absorb Dear ellaaa18The septum is sometimes "quilited" with an absorbable suture or a suture is used in the septal cartilage. As the suture is dissolving and the body getting rid of it, a few lumps or bumps can be seen. If the "bump" is tender to the touch or expressing any discharge, you should show your surgeon.Taking the photos was a good idea, see if you can show your surgeon or ask to email them to his/her office staff if an appointment isn't available.Best Wishes

Answer: Rhinoplasty Recovery Dear ellaaaa18, Thank you for the photographs it appears that you have some swelling in the area of your incision and may be caused from a suture in that area. I would see your surgeon for a follow up and then a proper diagnosis may be made. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
