I'm 3 weeks post lipo and BBL. I am tired of my garment. Can I switch to Spanx? Does it need to cover my buttocks?

Doctor gave me a garment that it was only covering my abdomen which i wore for 2 weeks and it was very uncomfortable and sometimes it gave me a horrible back pain. I bought a 1 piece surgical garment recommended by my doctor but it is also very uncomfortable, and I only wore it one week, I am not swollen anymore, Can I switch to Spanxs? Does it really change the final result for my lipo and my buttocks?

Hello and Great Question.  I appreciate the time you are spending researching this procedure.  My name is Dr. Matthew J. Nykiel.  I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, a Fellowship Trained Cosmetic Surgeon, and a Butt Augmentation Specialist.
I have my patients wear a compression garment 24/7 except to shower for 3-4 weeks post op.  This helps control swelling.  Once the garment becomes too big then I recommend that they can buy Spanx.  I would recommend that you speak to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends.

Thank you for your question! For my patients, I recommend that they wear the special BBL garment that we provide after surgery for 3 weeks 24/7, followed by 3 weeks at night only. The garments we provide give patients the right amount of compression to the core area and are made of a specific material over the buttocks portion to help maintain the patient’s beautiful shape and results. Thank you for your question. Best is to check with your specific surgeon and every surgeon will have his/her own preferences as to recovery for specific procedures. I  have my patients wear a compression garment (faja) 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.

I suggest my patients to use a full body compression garment, 24/7 for the first month, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 weeks, to get the best results.
