Dear mscovergirl, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Thank you very much for this interesting enquire.I always recommend to my patients to start exercises two weeks after PO, gradually: first, gentle walks without sweating, then, you can go to the gym to do aerobics, and, after four months you can stats with machines exercise and start with light weights, and, if there are no problems, only six months after PO may charge "free weights".It is very important to discuss any concern with your plastic surgeon.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
I recommend that my patients refrain from exercise until 3 weeks post op. At 3 weeks they may resume cardio including walking, jogging, elliptical etc. I recommend patients wait a full 6 weeks post op to resume weights, yoga, pilates, squats etc. Please always refer to your plastic surgeon regarding his/her specific recommendations post op.
Hello thank you for your question. You can begin exercising right now at the 6 week mark. Lunges, squats, hip thrusts, donkey kicks, side lunges, jump squats, burpees, and mountain climbers are some exercises which will enhance your results a great deal. You can also incorporate abdominal exercises which don't require you to be on your back such as side bends, hanging knee tucks, and all plank variations. If you are not trying to lose weight, keep your cardio to 15 minutes a day and absolutely no seated exercises like rowing or cycling. Working out with weights will really take your surgeon's work to the next level. Good luck!
