I'm looking for a doctor in New York to surgically remove my tattoo through excision? I do not want laser tattoo removal (photo)

The tattoo is on my sternum, in between/below my breasts. It is 2x1in. I am dark skinned, so I would prefer to have my tattoo removed surgically. I do not mind having a scar, which I would prefer over the tattoo. Are there any doctors who can/will perform this procedure?

We would have to see you in person to evaluate the laxity of your skin to determine if the tattoo can be surgically removed.  Small tattoos on the abdomen, back thighs and upper areas are usually easily excised surgically.  In other areas such as the chest and forearm it really depends if there is enough skin laxity to have a tension-free closure to bring the skin edges back together after removing the tattoo.  Sometimes we will need to do serial excision by surgically removing a portion of the tattoo, letting the skin heal and the returning 3 months laters to excise the rest of the tattoo.  We look forwarding to see you.

Since it's small, you may be a good candidate for excision. It depends on how much "give" is in the skin, wherever it is on your body. Some plastic surgeons will do tattoo excisions, and, many won't - I'd suggest calling around in your area and see who does them. If you change your mind (or, if you can't find a provider who will do it,) that tattoo would likely be easy to remove with lasers ;)  Good luck! :)
