How do I get drains removed in US after International surgery?

I am scheduled to have Lipo/ Extended TT/ BBL in DR in late March with Dr. Walkiris Robles. I am expecting to still have drains after my 10 day stay (hopefully not). I know that some PS are leery about messing with other Drs work. How will get my drains removed? Is this something I can do myself?

I would recommend that you discuss this with your plastic surgeon as every surgeon their own respective post op protocol for their patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you will be healing following surgery and can give you clearance to fly home.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Thank you for posting your interesting question. There are a few ways of locating a plastic surgeon who can remove your drains following a tummy tuck and BBL in another country, such as the Dominican Republic. You can contact your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and ask him if he has a contact person near your hometown who will see you. This may provide some continuity of care too. You can make an appointment in the plastic surgery clinic at a medical center. There will be a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon on staff. You should discuss with you surgeon how he wants you to take care of the drains. Part of the problem you are dealing with can be eliminated if you have the surgery performed close to your home and get post-op care there.  Perhaps your doctor has someone he can refer you to in your area.  Best of luck!

Drains after surgery are very important. Sometimes we can remove them after 10 days of surgery, sometimes need more time. If drains are removed very soon, you could develop Seroma(fluids collection) and they are a little hard to drain.
