There are no hard and fast rules on when to fly after this procedure. Recommend that you ask for your PS's opinion regarding boarding a flight within a few days (Most would recommend a week or two before flying) of your BBL surgery. He/she will know of any complications during or following the surgery. The main risk is related to development of a blood clot in the legs that can then migrate to the lungs. Sitting for long periods of time puts you at higher risk due to being stationary. Pressure on the fat, etc. are also possibilities.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Dear phyre, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello phyre,It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! Plastic surgeons have different post-operative protocols, customized for every patient to achieve the best results. I typically suggest my patients to avoid traveling at least the first 8 weeks after Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery. Putting pressure on your buttocks by sitting down or laying on it, especially for long periods of time, can stiffen, deform and even cause the transplanted fat cells to reabsorb. In the case you can’t absolutely elude getting in a plane, I recommend you sitting in a modified position, placing a bolster or rolled-up towel under the back of the thighs while sitting down, as to avoid significant pressure. Also, there is a variety of post BBL surgery support cushions available on the market. Moreover, your surgeon may prescribe you an anti-coagulant medication to prevent a deep venous thrombosis when you travel, especially for long flights. Good luck and may God bless you! Dr. De La Cruz.
You should wait at least 2 weeks before sitting without a support cushion and sleeping on your back. Sitting with no support too soon can harm the newly moved fat cells.
I am surprised that you are going out of state to get a BBL when there are many excellent surgeons in your area that perform them all the time. Remember the post-op care is as important as the surgical procedure and if your doctor is far away, you will not be able to see them for follow-up as easily.
HelloI suggest to stay 2 to 3 weeks, to make sure you go back home recovered.Good luck.RegardsDr. Israel MañonCertified Plastic Surgeon
If you’re traveling to Florida forever your bbl you may need to stay in state for at least a week but, of course, you need to consult with your surgeon.
You are at increased risk for a DVT (blood clot) for ~2 weeks after surgery (exposure to general anesthesia over 1h long). This means long car rides or plane rides can put you at even greater risk for a blood clot during this window of time. Also, you want to have proper follow up with your PS, so you want to make sure you stay long enough for them to make sure you do not develop a seroma etc. The most common time to develop a seroma is around day 14 after surgery. Miami is very tempting here in the US because the prices cannot be beat...they are as cheap as they come for a BBL. Make sure you do your homework as a large number of deaths and serious complications have happened in Miami. Also make sure you are well educated on the 1/3000 death rate.
My first word of advice is be careful. Please do some homework and be sure of the training and safety standards of the surgeon you’re going to. Out of town surgery is ok, but you definitely compromise the post-operative care, which is important. Having said all that, I would stay in town for 4-5 days and be prepared to return anytime in the fist 3 weeks, if you have issues and can not find some one in your home town to help you. Best of luck.
Hello, thanks for the question. I suggest you stay around 1 to 2 weeks, to make sure you are recovering alright before returning home. Good Luck
Apetamin has an anti-histamine in it. Although it’s relatively safe by itself, having any additional medications in your system during a long operation with general anesthesia is not recommended. Safety first! Best of luck.
Although the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, this procedure can be extraordinarily painful for the patient. You want the most dramatic transformation possible, and you do not want to be in pain. If you want to achieve a maximal result, I would recommend general anesthesia w...
A BBL is also known as fat grafting. A graft is something taken from one part of the body and put in another part and it becomes permanent. For example, say you sustain a burn to your arm then we take skin from your leg and graft it onto your arm to repair the burn. The skin from your leg is a...
