Crackling during massages. I am worried about capsular contracture (Photo)

Hello, I am three months post op and just noticed that when I massage my right side there is a crackling sound and feel. Almost like popping bubble wrap, it's a new feeling and I am worried about capsular contracture. My right side now is achy after my massage. My breasts are also soft with mobility. Thanks.

Any new symptoms should be evaluated by your plastic surgeon. Thank you for your question and photograph. I would recommend you see your operative surgeon and reproduce the sound for them.  It is difficult to know what may be causing the sound, especially now three months after surgery, as initially there may be some air pockets in the implant pocket that can cause some sounds, but you should be well-healed by now.  Additionally, your physician can examine you for a capsular contracture and appropriate healing of your breast lift.

Great question.  Its not unusual to have weird sounds for a short period of time after breast augmentation.  Often this is attributed to a natural amount of healing fluid and implant movement.  There appears to be some type of skin or soft tissue irregularity at the bottom of your right breast.  If this has worsened over the last few weeks and the crackling is also in that breast you will be served well to have your plastic surgeon take a look for developing capsule contracture.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta
