I am getting Brow lift, upper blepharoplasty, full face laser resurfacing and lipo of arms back and inner thighs. When I went to the pre-op the nurse said she was planning to prescribe Tylenol 3 with codine for the pain. Being as my head, eyes, arms, legs and back will all be cut, swollen and bruised I insisted on a stronger pain med and got it after she argued with me. Is this normal? Am I being a big baby?
Answer: Brow lift Hello exofficeThere is no reason for you to endure extreme pain if stronger pain medication can be prescribed, i would advice you talk to your surgeon about this or use a board certified surgeon who understands you.

Answer: Pain management after multiple cosmetic surgeries In our practice, we prescribe stronger pain medications than codeine, especially for multiple procedures. We typically use Vicodin or Percocet, but it's important to know that must be given to the patient ahead of time, and not called in on the weekends.

Answer: Patients know themselves the best and if you encounter a surgeon who is so inflexible that is his/her way or the highway, its time to find another surgeon that will work with you to achieve your goals and provide you the best recovery possible. But if you did accept the Tyl#3, would your surgeon be available to give you a triplicate LATER if you called and said the Tyl#3 wasn't enough and would this be done easily for you or would you have to drive a great distance or for some time to pick up the triplicate? I would suspect in the big cities, it would be nearly impossible to get something stronger after hours or on weekends.

Answer: Am I just scared or does this not sound reasonable? We would typically use a stronger pain med the first few days, because there is no reason to be "tough" and suffer. The pain meds are not dangerous if you follow instructions in doseage and only use them for a few days. If I were that doctor i would make sure the nurse in the office was more compassionate.
