Good morning!I perform over 500 augmentations a year, which means I place over 1000 implants. I have been in practice for 20 years. I have tried all of the major implant manufacturers, and my overwhelming favorite in terms of look, feel, size and profile variety, safety, warranty, responsiveness of the company to customer inquiries and needs, responsiveness to the surgeon's needs, interest in safety and education, product support, etc., are Mentor breast implants.
Thank you for your question. The current good brand is Mentor and Polytech they are very good brands and they are used currently.
Go with the best board certified plastic surgeon for you, not the best marketing or salesmanship. The three companies are FDA-approved and make similar products with similar warranties.
Dear janekai1002,you should get only FDA approved breast implants. Breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small. You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello dear patient.Mentor brand is the most popular brand in the world now. They are approved by the FDA company. I usually use this brand. Best regards
There are 3 implant manufacturers that have FDA approval in the US- Allergan, Mentor and Sientra. Each of these 3 companies have different size catalogs, different warranty and different implant selections. A competent plastic surgeon is going to reach a decision on which implant size and manufacturer is the best choice for YOU-I do think that asking your surgeon WHY they are choosing this brand/style/size is a good question.Regards,Jack Peterson MD
In my 35 years of practice, only 2 companies have stood the test of time, make excellent implants, offer great warranties, and are large and stable companies, even during COVID. I recommend Mentor or Allergan implants only. They stand behind their products, surgeons, and patients.
We all have different approaches. Some surgeons will do whatever you want and not consider your future consequences. Personally, maybe I worry a little too much about what may happen to my patients in the future. I'm not a fan of surgeries that are short lived and leave patients with big financial consequences after a short time. Also, most surgeons will have a relationship with an implant company that they prefer. I was a long time user of Mentor implants. I now use Sientra. I consider the quality of the Sientra implant similar to Allergan. Look at rupture rate (Sientra rupture rate at 10yrs is roughly 8.5%; Mentor is 24%). Look at warranty (Sientra is 20yrs; Mentor and Allergan are 10yrs). Another issue is monetary support in case of rupture within the warranty (Sientra is $5000; Mentor and Allergan are $3900). I think there is a pretty clear difference in companies, and one is more concerned about your future than others. Pick a surgeon that believes the same thing.
There are several excellent breast implant companies; Allergan, Mentor, Sientra. Typically a plastic surgeon has established a relationship with a particular company due to customer service, pricing, availability of implants, warranty, etc. The key is picking the right surgeon, always ask if your doctor is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery and has experience in breast enhancement procedures.Good Luck!
Natrelle and Mentor are probably the two biggest companies right now. Each plastic surgeon will have reasons for working with particular implants. They should be happy to discuss this with you during your consultation.
