MChen5928.  The incision, and thus the stitches are placed on the inside of the lip, facing the mouth.  The lip is made of mucosa, not skin, and heals very well.  I use dissolveable sutures, which usually go away within one week.  Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Hello,Lips can be reduced in an office setting. It is done usually under local anesthesia and patients are made quite comfortable. The sutures are placed on the inside portion of the lip to help conceal a scar. Final Results are between 3-6 months. Best, Dr. Anil Shah
