Is it okay to skip to the next set of aligners if the old ones don't fit properly? (photos)

Question

I have been wearing my aligners for two weeks but the left side does not fit. I rinsed them on the 1st week in slightly hot water and I think I ruined them. I didn't notice because they still fit quite well but I've realised they don't feel as strong as they should. My dentist said I should give it another week, if they still don't fit, I should come & have new impressions taken (I didn't tell him about the hot water), but I figured nothing would change so I put on the next set. Did I do right?

I don't recommend skipping aligners. They may seem to fit well - in terms of comfort, but if they are not positioned and aligned precisely with your teeth, they may actually be incorrectly shifting other teeth, setting you back in your Invisalign progress. Best of luck.James Asaf, DDS

If they are not too tight, proceed to the next set, they might be tight but that will pass.  Don't ever boil them, they distort.  If the issue is a really bad fit, then don't mess with them, get back to the orthodontist.

If the first set does not fit then it is better to have impressions taken by your dentist.  Be honest with your dentist so that the reason behind why they don't fit is addressed.  If the aligner did not fit initially then it is a manufacturing problem.  If it was the hot water then next time you know better.  Good Luck!

Sometimes during the  manufacture, by Invisalign of your aligners, you may find that one of your trays is mal-fitting. If you try on the next set and it fits well then you may continue, If not, I strongly suggest that you return to your orthodontist  who will ,in all probabiltity, take new impressions.

I would suggest returning to your dentist and having new impressions taken. If you move forward without following the proper sequence of aligners your teeth won't move correctly. Own up to the fact that you melted the aligner and move forward. People make mistakes.
