Does a Breast Reduction Tighten the Fat Round Your Back?

Breast reduction has no effect on the contour of the back. Suction the bra rolls can decrease prominences in that area as a separate procedure.

A breast reduction does so many great things especially if you have neck and back pain. The lift is an added bonus that gives the breasts a youthful appearance.
Unfortunately it doesn't tighten the skin on your back or reduce the fat. There are procedures to address these issues like liposuction.

The breast reduction focuses on the breasts. If you wish to treat the fat that extends to your back, you will need additional liposuction

A breast reduction that extends to the side can definitely tighten. I tend to use a wise pattern which can be extend to the side for this purpose. What also can be done is to perform liposuction on the side in conjunction with breast reduction to reduce the volume on the side extending to the back.

Breast reduction operations relieve neck and back pain in many patients as well as lifting and reducing the size of the breasts. I also treat many of my patients with liposuction on the side of their chest and back. Occasionally I even excise excess skin along the bra line to contour the torso. Patients seem to be very pleased with the results.

Breast reduction surgery only addresses the size and shape of the breasts. Another procedure would be needed to address the back issues.

A breast reduction does not treat the fat in the back. Liposuction or direct excision would probably be necessary.

We would really need photos to make a full assessment, but in short no it will not.

Sometimes plastic surgeons will extend the breast reduction incision to the lateral chest to take up skin there, but not all the way on to the back, that would require a separate incision.

Many women ask this question actually, but unfortunately you don't get any back tightening effect from the breast reduction. Sometimes you can get a little correction of the lateral chest folds with a breast reduction however, just be sure to mention it to your surgeon. Dr A
