Do those type of birthmark disappear? If yes,how fast? And what tile of doctors perform them?
Answer: Laser Treatment for Birthmark Thank you for your question. I would find a Pediatric Dermatologist, or a Dermatologist who is familiar with port wine stains, and use of the Vbeam Perfecta laser. These can take multiple treatments, and may be best done when the babay is older, unless there is concern of growth of the PWS. I hope this helps!

Answer: Can a 2 month old baby have laser treatment for strawberry birthmark? You ask an excellent question. There are many different types of birthmarks described in children. We now classify them as vascular malformations or vascular tumors (but NOT cancer). What you are likely describing is a hemangioma, formerly known as a "strawberry mark" or "strawberry hemangioma". These are typically bright red and can grow quite large during the first year of life. They typically start to fade away on their own over the first decade of life. They are highly vascular (full of blood vessels) and can sometimes bleed. The most important thing to determine is if the hemangioma is blocking the vision or airway, etc. If this is the case then the tumor should be dealt with swiftly (possibly with surgery). To answer your question, yes, the hemangioma can be treated with lasers. You should find a Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist with extensive experience with lasers and treatment of these birthmarks with lasers. Each patient is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, so your doctor will need to decide if your baby is a candidate for the laser treatment. Most often, we deal with hemangiomas with watchful waiting. I hope this helps!

Answer: Yes. Yes, they can - in fact weekly laser treatments can involute or hasten the disappearance. These birthmarks, as contrary to the name don't usually appear at birth but shortly there after. They go thru a growth phase, static phase, then involution or regression (start to shrink)- the whole process can take several months. Ulceration can occur, and if it does one must prevent infection. We now know that laser is both safe, and effective. Several treatments are needed for best outcomes. See a laser paediatric dermatologist or plastics in your State.CheersDr Davin LimLaser DermatologistBrisbane, Australia
