I am a 46 year old woman with no health issues. I went to my first red light therapy appointment today. It was at a tanning salon in a tanning bed that had red lights. The session was 20 minutes long. I now have darker blue veins on my face and all over my body. I also have new capillaries across my buttocks and legs.

It’s important to distinguish between varicose veins and spider veins when choosing between laser therapy, sclerotherapy, and vein surgery. With two board certified vein specialists, our center uses a combination of visual examination, functional flow measurements, ultrasound, transillumination, and infrared light to map out vein networks prior to therapy. Lasers can be used to treat deep varicose vein insufficiency, vein perforators, and varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is ideal for spider veins and reticular veins. Whereas surgery is reserved for severely incompetent varicose vein segments.

We have great success with the proyellow laser and this has very little downtime.  Alternatively the vbeam/pulsed dye laser or excel V can be used.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Reticular veins are the blue posted veins and the ideal treatment for them would be sclerotherapy.  They are more prominent in individuals with fair skin and can be due to genetics, aging an sun exposure.  I do not feel that the red lights has anything to do with the vein formation.

We can inject the blue veins with sclerotherapy or get rid of them with superficial laser.  Id recommend a consult.  With the laser there can be no sun exposure or tanning beds for weeks prior.  NO they will not go away on their own.
