Does botox in armpits stop the odour?

The underarm area produces both sweat (sudoriferous glands) as well as smell (apocrine glands).  Botox can help remove the smell of both.  For maximal removal of smell and sweat, try a semi-permanent reduction of sweat with either Miradry or RF needling combined with laser hair removal (hair can hold onto smell).

Thank you for your question. Botox is a very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis (armpit, hands, feet, scalp/face, etc) as well as odor. The dosing is typically based on areas treated but can vary around 50 - 100 units per side depending on how large the treatment area. Duration also depends on dose and technique, but can vary from 3-6 months. For the armpit region, you may also want to consider miraDry as it provides a longer lasting relief for both sweat and odor and in the long run is more cost-effective.

Our office specializes in Miraday. Miradry just got FDA clearance for elimination of all hair colors under the arm. It also has clearance for the elimination of underarm sweating and odor.  Botox has to be done multiple times a year and is much more expensive.

Most underarm smell comes from the bacteria that feed off sweat. Since Botox decreases the sweating under your arms the smell should go away. There are other less common reasons for excessive smell that may not be improved with Botox so if you don't see improvement then consider getting worked up by a physician. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question. Botox injections can reduce body odour by shutting down sweat glands and this can significantly lowers the odour intensity. I would wait the full 2 weeks until your review and then if the problem persists follow up with your practitioner.  Always use a qualified practitioner.

If the sweating stops from the injections then the odor should diminish as well. Give it a little more time to take effect.

Botox will eliminate hyperhidrosis and in MOST people, subtle bromhidrosis (odor) will go away. This is because the fatty acids that the bacteria produce in the moist environment is lessened when hyperhidrosis is treated. However, there are individuals in whom bromhidrosis is significant, pungent and overwhelming - in those people, Botox may lessen the odor but may not eliminate it. miraDry has been shown to help these people as it destroys both eccrine (watery sweat producing) and apocrine (oily secretion producing) glands. It can take up to 2 weeks to notice the effects of your treatments.  The odor is caused by bacteria, so an antiperspirant containing aluminum chloride or a deodorant can be used. Certain foods can cause an odor as well.  Cut back on garlic, onions and spicy foods.

Thanks for your question- yes you should wait 2 weeks to get the full effect and I would expect the odour to be reduced after toxin treatment. If this has not solved the problem newer alternative to toxin such as Miradry can offer a more permanent solution
