Lymphatic drainage massage. Will I see a faster end result? Will I still have to wear my compression garment?

I usually have patients wear a compression garment after liposuction, but I do not routinely have patients go for lymphatic massage.

Congratulations on your recent procedure.   There is little evidence that lymphatic massage will allow you to see faster results.   Most of us recommend wearing the compression garment for one month. 

First of all, I recommend that you follow your plastic surgeon's instructions regarding both massages and compression garment use. There is no scientific evidence showing that either massages or compression garments have any impact on long-term results after liposuction. Compression garments do keep swelling down.My personal belief is that swelling after liposuction is your body's normal response to the procedure. It's part of an inflammatory process that is part of healing. I personally do not see the need to intervene since our bodies are exceedingly good at healing by themselves. My practice is almost exclusively devoted to body contouring using liposuction and fat transfer. We do not recommend our patients undergo postoperative massages. I encourage my patients to get back to normal activities as soon as they feel comfortable. I ask my patients to use their own judgment but to not engage in any activity that causes discomfort after the procedure. Pain is a signal felt when our body is being injured. In my opinion, potentially injuring tissues that are trying to heal is counterproductive. The way I see it is that this can potentially cause more inflammation, more swelling and delay healing.
