We find lymphatic drainage to be helpful and recommend 10 sessions over the first two weeks. Some patients really like it and continue for longer.Healing after a mommy makeover is usually retty straight forward. There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery. The later phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens. It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient.
Lymphatic drainage can be done after surgery however there is no evidence to support that it helps speed up recovery or reduce swelling. However, it does make some patients feel better. #PlasticSurgery #LymphaticDrainage #Swelling #Recovery
Hi... thank you for the question.... Every PS have their own indications, I indicate my patients start Lymphatic drainage 5 days after surgery...
Generally speaking it's best to leave an area that is healing after surgery alone. I personally would ask you not to undergo so-called lymphatic massage if you are my patient.
Hello, i would recommend that you start between the 5th and 7th day and do a minimun of 10 sessions with a specialist on this type of massages. Best wishes.
Lymphatic massage starts 1-2 weeks after a mommy makeover depending on how comfortable you are post-surgery. However, the exact timing will depend on your modality. If massaged by a licensed massage therapist, it can start earlier. If it is endermologie or synergy, it will usually start a little later.a
Thanks for your question. At ourpractice, we do not recommend this immediatelyafter surgery as the incisions may be compromised. Every plastic surgeonfollows different protocols so I wouldcheck with your surgeon. Best to you. –Dr. Coan
Hi evethrLymphatic massage after body contouring surgery (such as a tummy tuck & liposuction) can be quite helpful in flushing out the remaining swelling and getting patients feeling back to normal again. In my practice, I have a professional massage therapist provide massages for patients at the three week post op check up, and they are free to engage his services as often after that as they feel necessary. As always, it is best to check with your plastic surgeon as their preferences may differ.Dr Gavin Sandercoe
For my patients I let them have massages if they want as it helps make them feel better and relaxed. So it is more therapeutic for them and if it helps them in their recovery process then it is an added bonus. But please check wih your own PS.
Thank you for the question. This modality is not "recommended" in our practice but I would have no problem with gentle lymphatic massage provided by expert providers starting around 2-3 weeks after surgery ( assuming normal, complication free healing is occurring). It would behoove you to check with your plastic surgeon before proceeding.Best wishes.
I have patients begin gentle massage at about 2 weeks. The massage needs to be gentle because there is still tenderness. As tenderness subsides more aggressive massage is possible. My Best, Dr C
I personally do not recommend that my patients undergo lymphatic massages after liposuction.I have great faith in the ability of the body to heal itself without intervention.I especially warn against engaging in any procedure that causes increased discomfort after surgery. There are, however,...
Lymphatic massage, while helpful following liposuction of any kind including SmartLipo, is not medically necessary in my opinion because the process of edema or swelling resolution will continue with time regardless. It may in some cases speed things up but for most patients is not needed....
