How long does "beaten up" pain last after CoolSculpting to abdomen?

Question

I had coolsculpting done to my upper, middle and lower abdomen four days ago. The newer 35 minute applicators were used 2 on top, middle and bottom, so 6 total). Ever since my entire stomach hurts like I was beaten up. Hurts when I touch, when I walk and it jiggles, or when I contract my muscles. No nerve pain yet, just this sore "bruised inside" feeling. How long does this typically last? Tylenol does nothing and I was told to avoid ibuprofen.

Thank you for your question. Some of the most common side effects of coolsculpting are bruising, tenderness and redness in the area. The feeling you are describing is very normal and may last for up to 3 weeks on average. The length of time varies and really depends on the patient.Regards,

Thank goodness the newer applicators were used, or the pain would be worse. You had a lot treated in one day, so it is perfectly normal to feel sore after treatment. The "bruised feeling" and soreness can last anywhere between a few days and a few weeks, but it should gradually get better each day. I recommend wearing tight clothes over the treated area for more comfort. When I had my flanks treated I wore tight high waisted yoga pants and it helped tremendously. Any time it jiggles it will feel sore, so a tight top should help hold everything in and reduce the majority of the pain. Also, a warm bath can help it feel more comfortable.

Thanks for your question. Having discomfort after CoolSculpting is perfectly normal and usually last for about a week.  Swelling is also a natural and expected part of the post treatment process.  We find that our clients are more comfortable if they wear compression garments to keep from experiencing the jiggle.  Additionally, many clients find that rubbing arnica on the area and applying heat also helps.  I hope you get some great results.  What I hear over and over is that the discomfort was worth it, because the results are so amazing. This type of discomfort can last for several days up to several weeks. It varies from patient to patient.  Especially when several areas were done at one session.  It should lessen over time. I tell my patients to put heat on the area and compression. Spanx or yoga pants work well.  You can take motrin if the discomfort is severe.

The discomfort after coolsculpting varies.  That bruised feeling is not uncommon and having more in the same region will add to the soreness.  We let our patients take ibuprofen for the discomfort -- true bruising is generally mild and we are not worried about bleeding.  Warmth is also helpful  just as it is for sore muscles.  Put a baggie of uncooked rice in the microwave for 30 sec - 1 min then wrap it in a towel and apply.  The warmth can reduce your soreness and will not change your results.  The issue of soreness when the areas move is common -- wearing a mild compression garment like spanx or even a high waisted yoga pant or tights will relieve that faster.  Discomfort and sore sensation usually lasts at most 1 - 2 weeks.  And remember that having more cycles in that area means that area will get more reduction in fat faster.  And please call your treating physician.  Ask about taking ibuprofen -- it is likely they will say it is okay.  And schedule your followup for 3 months so you can enjoy reviewing your follow up photos with them.I hope this answer helps.  Best wishes.

The pain that you are describing after Coolsculpting is entirely normal. Due to swelling, sometimes the pain can be a little more intense. From my experience, this pain and swelling can last around 4-7 days ideally. I would suggest wearing some type of compression garment such as Spanx or anything tight to hold some of the swelling in, we have had good reviews on that suggestion from our patients. It will at least help the jiggling feeling and discomfort when walking. I hope that helps!
