Can SculpSure be used on the male breast without harming the nipple?

Sculpsure is a noninvasive 1060nm diode laser treatment that removes up to 25% of stubborn fat in the treated area in 25 minutes.It is FDA approved for the abdomen and flanks. It is safe if you get pregnant in the future.



The body contouring effects are seen in as quick as six weeks with final results at 12 weeks.



The results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight and health.



The laser targets and destroys the fat cells only which are then naturally removed from the body. Since the laser does not affect the skin or muscle it can be used on all skin colors and there has been no reported incidents of burns when treated by a properly trained physician. It is protective since it alternates heating and cooling.



It has four applicators that can be customized to treat the areas of stubborn fat.



If a second treatment is needed we wait at least six weeks and usually closer to 12.





If you notice lumps after (which I've never seen) I would recommend massage. You should also alert your surgeon.  No compression garment required.





There is no downtime and you can resume your normal activities right after the treatment. There may be some soreness in the area for a few days for which you can take ibuprofen or tylenol. A cold compress can also be used.





Sculpsure is not used for skin tightening however some of our patients have seen this. If more skin tightening is needed we have combined this with thermi or Ulthera for a complete treatment. Sculpsure is recommended for stubborn areas of fat that are not being lost by diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss treatment





Since I have both a coolsculpting and sculpsure I am working on protocols of utilizing both of these depending upon what areas need to be treated and the response to the treatment.



I have used sculpsure on other areas other than the abdomen with very good results. It is safe to treat male gynecomastia.

SculpSure can be used over the male breast by avoiding or shielding the nipple.  However, SculpSure will only target fat cells.  Male breast enlargement can be due to fat or it can be due to glandular enlargement, which would need to be evaluated and treated appropriately - often with a combination of SmartLipo and direct excision.  Please consult with a surgeon who has experience in treating this condition appropriately.

Yes, it can be safely performed on male breasts without causing the nipples to be numb.  Be sure to get examined by a licensed practitioner before treatment.  SculpSure uses a diode laser which generate optical radiation (1060 nm) that specifically targets the fat cells in the subcutaneous layer.  It is not deep enough to reach internal organs.  

Although some surgeons use SculpSure to treat excess tissue in the male breast, this is considered "off label". Personally, I would advise you to schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who does both SculpSure and gynecomastia surgery to be assessed in person and have an honest conversation as to the right choice for your body. SculpSure for Male breast reduction is an off label treatment, therefore there are no studies performed to give you an answer with references.  You can definitely get a SculpSure treatment to treat your breast/chest area. I strongly advise that you get an expert  evaluation before your treatment to determine if your increased breast size is due to fat or increased gland tissue as treatments are different for both conditions. SculpSure simply destroys fat calls and does nothing for increased gland tissue. It is safe and will not harm your nipple if the area is covered and the appropriate applicator design is chosen. SculpSure can be used to reduce fat in the male breast. However this is an off label treatment area, which is being done in the field. The nipple will not be effected and can be protected if a patient is concerned. I do not know of any reported cases of numbness of the nipples from SculpSure. This laser can not effect any of the organs either. The laser only penetrates to the fat layer of tissue, as this is the only thing it is attracted to.

SculpSure is safe for male breast gynecomastia.  The nipples can be protected and the laser can help with fat tissue.

SculpSure is designed to target subcutaneous fat only and will not harm the skin. That being said, your nipple could be avoided by using one of the frames (points of attachment for the machine) that has a center cover piece - this way your nipple would not be treated directly by the laser. Of course, there is spread - tissue approximately six centimeters around the treated area is also heated up and fat destroyed, so the fat beneath the nipple would still be destroyed, however the nipple would not be directly beneath the laser points of contact. SculpSure is completely safe on this area, however if you do not feel comfortable, there are ways around it to still receive treatment while keeping the nipple itself covered.

Having access to both Sculpsure and SmartLipo gives me the opportunity to compare them on a daily basis. Make breast fat is interwoven with fibrous tissue which is tough, and the usual amount of excess fat is enough to necessitate several Sculpsure treatments to get a tangible result. On the other hand, SmartLipo uses a laser inserted through a tiny needle stick incision, and the laser melts through the thick dense tissue quickly and thoroughly. In my mind there's no comparison to the quick, local-anesthesia SmartLipo to eliminate the fat completely in one hour. Heat from either method does not penetrate nearly enough to damage nipple or heart. Some of my most gratified patients over the years have been men who eliminated their "man boobs" with this's one procedure--SmartLipo.
