Eczema and breast implants: does having eczema put me at risk for breast implant illness?

Question

I know this is a random question but I occasionally get eczema and I'm aware they say it's linked to an autoimmune disorder, does this put me at risk of breast implant illness or my body rejecting the implants? Thanks.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. I don't think that your eczema will cause BII. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

As you mentioned, some doctors who have treated many patients with BII report that it is more likely to occur in patients who have a personal or family history of autoimmune conditions, allergies, and conditions. But some women who develop BII don’t have any of these risk factors.

In the over 7000 patients I have taken care of for breast augmentation, many have had eczema. None of these patients reported any problems after surgery. I recommend an in person evaluation by a plastic surgeon to be measured and discuss your goals. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements with different size and profile implants. They also get to see what they would look like when the breasts have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved. Women tell me that this process is very helpful in determining what is right for them. My impression  after having a plastic surgery practice for 4 decades is: probably not. I have done numerous breast augmentations on patients with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and many other autoimmune disorders through the years, and the risk has appears to be no different that those of other patients.
