How long after a tummy tuck can you have sexual intercourse?

I heard this from another surgeon on this site and I have incorporated it into my answer to patients who ask this question in my practice. "Think of having sex after surgery like riding a bike. It's okay to have a leisurely ride down the beach early after surgery when you feel able and save the Tour de France ride (a bicycle race for those who don't know) for two to three months down the road.

I'd recommend waiting at least two weeks before having sexual intercourse. It's always best to follow the advice of your surgeon, as they are in the best position to know what is the right choice for you.

I think you can have gentle intercourse after a tummy tuck as soon as you are comfortable with this. Usually, the swelling has subsided enough by about 10 days that you can go ahead with this. It should definitely be understood before trying this, that the person with the tummy tuck is in charge and activities should be halted if there is discomfort.

Hi peanut90210, typically patients are not to undertake any rigorous exercise for 6-8 weeks following abdominoplasty, so it is very important to discuss the post-operative time frames for various types of physical activity so that you fully understand the risks. Patients’ ability to have intercourse depends  on how well you are recovering. Rememer - you’ll likely experience soreness and swelling after your tummy tuck procedure, you may have drains, and you will also need to wear a compression garment during your recovery. Please speak with your surgeon about this, so he or she can advise you more thoroughly about the risks. I hope this helps!

Hello dear!Thanks for the question.The first thing i recommend it to talk with your doctor, because every PS has their own instructions; so you need to know about his/her answer. Having saying that, i personally recommend to my patients to wait 6 weeks after surgery.Good luck :)

I would recommend you wait at least 2 weeks to have sexual intercourse. Even if you feel like everything is ok the movement and spike in blood pressure could effect the surgical outcome. But always go with your surgeon's advice, as he or she knows you best.

Congratulations on having undergone the tummy tuck procedure.  Your plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to specific information/advice. He/she knows exactly what was done and how you are progressing. Concerns would include an increase in heart rate and the potential for bleeding. Muscle spasm may be painful. Obviously, significant pressure on the surgical site is not a good idea either. It is not uncommon for patients to report increased swelling that occurs after vigorous exercise (including sexual activity), even several months after tummy tuck surgery. 
Having said that, assuming some creativity and gentleness, you will likely be able to  proceed about one month after surgery.
