Can a frontal sinus infection cause forehead swelling? (Photo)

Thanks for your question. It is possible for a sinus infection to cause some soft tissue swelling of the forehead. Typically this is in the setting of a very severe infection that may actually come through the bone. This is much more common in children than adults. Additionally you may have some minor swelling due to severe inflammation of the sinuses. I would recommend discussing the issue with your provider and likely have a CT evaluation of your sinuses. There are a couple of ways frontal sinusitis can make the forehead swell. You should see an otolaryngologist, describe your symptoms, and see what is causing the swelling.

These changes absolutely could be coming from the frontal sinuses especially if you have a history of nasal polyps or recurrent infection. Sometimes this bossing can come from enlarges frontal sinuses (pneumosinus dilitans) or bony enlargement of the frontal bones as can be seen with acromegaly. A CT scan of the sinuses and growth hormone levels should be done with consultation with a surgeon experienced in sinus surgery
