I do not use drains for breast reductions and use a short scar technique, lollipop rather than anchor pattern technique. It is possible to do a breast reduction by lipo alone with negligible scars but sagging and a less pretty breast often results.
There are no breast reductions that are temporary and don't have sutures. There are surgeons that perform breast reductions that do not use drains.
I typically use all buried sutures for my breast reduction procedures. This means that no sutures have to be removed in the office. In addition the use of drains is less common for breast reduction.
Thank you for the question. Breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. By removing “excess” breast tissue, adipose tissue, and breast skin this operation reduces AND lifts the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall (in other words, the breasts are "automatically" lifted when a breast reduction is performed). By doing so, patients often find improvement in neck, back, and shoulder discomfort and find it easier to form their activities of daily living and exercise. When the time is right, seek consultation with well-trained/experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Ask to see lots of examples of their work and communicate your goals clearly. Best NOT to communicate your goals in terms of achieving a specific cup size; this type of communication can be a source of miscommunication. In my practice, I prefer the use of goal pictures during this communication phase; many patients wish to remove enough breast tissue to improve/alleviate symptoms while maintaining upper/lower body proportionality. You will find, as you do your research, that there are a variety of different “methods” or techniques that include the use of drains (or not)… Best NOT to use the specific stitch or drain protocol as the main criteria in selecting your plastic surgeon.I hope this, and the attached link (dedicated to breast reduction surgery concerns), helps. Best wishes.
If you do not want stitches and will be happy with just a volume reduction without skin tightening or a lift, then liposuction may be the best choice.
Thank you for your question. It is a very common one. Reducing the breast implies to make is smaller and lift it. To reduce it we need to take out breast tissue but also skin. So there will be some suture lines. When the reduction is minimal it is possible to have scars only around the areola and no drains. In no smokers scars can be very good and difficult to notice with time
Most breast reductions will be closed with sutures. Depending on the plastic surgeon, the sutures will be below the skin, above the skin, or a combination of both, and the use of drains is up to the discretion of the surgeon. Best wishes.
In some cases, a breast reduction can be done with liposuction through small incisions that can be left open without a stitch. However, the results are not as predictable and insurance is not likely to cover it.
The simple answer is Yes I do not use drains and all sutures are buried so there is nothing to remove after surgeryDr Corbin
The only such operation without incisions/sutures and/or drains is liposuction of the breasts which is not a true breast reduction since no breast tissue is removed, only fat. The fat content of the breast and the amount that can be suctioned out is not easy or even possible to predict/control preoperatively. The maximum reduction is about a cup size but this is variable. There is also no true lift of the breast using liposuction alone but properly done liposuction will not cause the breast to sag from the fat extraction. Breasts that are not too saggy and only slightly too big are the best candidates for breast liposuction. Remember also that fat is light -- it floats on water. Therefore fat reduction of the breast does not reduce the weight of the breast very much. As far as is known there is no functional alteration of the breast and no change in risk of breast cancer or detection because of liposuction alone. There are, however, no significant incisions and no drains needed.
Although this is probably normal- i would consult with the Dr who performed the surgery. I always expect my patients to ask me first and not ask others who dont know you- especially with photos sent are not ideal. I suggest having your surgeon answer this question
If you have recently undergone breast reduction surgery, it is possible that there is fluid within your left breast. As your breast moves, the fluid and tissue within the breast may create the sounds that your are hearing. As the fluid absorbs, the unusual noise should resolve. Thanks for...
Many women wonder if there is an "ideal" cup size. Unfortunately, using cup size to determine what will be the best outcome for your breast reduction surgery isn't the guide to use. You may have found in bra shopping that cup size varies across manufacturers. Rather, find some photos of the...
